Engineering Plastic: PC/ABS Compound Material

  PC/ABS alloy is a high-performance engineering plastic raw material widely used in automotive (low VOC and low emission interiors), communications, medical, and home appliance industries. It is available in various grades including general-purpose, electroplating, weather-resistant and anti-scratch, flame retardant, spray painting, and reinforced versions. This material enhances the stress crack resistance and processability of polycarbonate (PC) while maintaining excellent heat resistance, impact strength, chemical resistance, and dimensional stability.

As designers increasingly incorporate functional and decorative metal coatings into products, the use of ABS and PC/ABS alloys in plating applications continues to grow. Plated PC/ABS is primarily used for automotive components (door handles, grilles, trim), gold-plated parts, and other applications requiring metallic finishes. The most critical step in achieving strong adhesion between the metal plating and plastic substrate involves etching with a solution typically composed of chromic acid and sulfuric acid.
