Engineering Plastics: PC/ABS Compound Material

  PC/ABS alloy is a high-performance engineering plastic widely used in automotive interiors (for low VOC and low emissions), communications, medical devices, and home appliances. It is available in various grades including general-purpose, electroplating, weather-resistant, anti-scratch, flame-retardant, spray-paint, and reinforced versions. This material enhances the stress crack resistance and processability of polycarbonate (PC), while offering excellent heat resistance, impact strength, chemical resistance, and dimensional stability. With growing demand for metal-coated functional and decorative parts, the use of ABS and PC/ABS alloys in plating applications is increasing. Typical applications include automotive components such as door handles, grilles, and trim parts, as well as gold-plated items. A critical step in achieving strong adhesion between the metal plating and plastic substrate is etching, usually performed with a chromic-sulfuric acid mixture.
